How to participate
FactNot is a friends beta for careful, cited research. Participate in good faith, distinguish evidence from opinion, and remember that a confidence label or AI-assisted summary is not a guarantee of truth.
- Use accurate titles, citations, and context; correct material mistakes when you discover them.
- Challenge factual accuracy through FactNot's factual-challenge tools, not through an abuse report.
- Report bugs through product support, privacy requests through /privacy/request, copyright notices through the Copyright page, and safety concerns through /safety/report.
Safety and respect
Do not use FactNot to threaten, target, exploit, deceive, or expose people. Context matters, including whether content documents abuse, reports news, or creates a credible safety risk.
- No harassment, hateful attacks, credible threats, sexual exploitation, non-consensual intimate imagery, child sexual abuse material, stalking, doxxing, or targeted privacy exposure.
- No impersonation intended to deceive, coordinated manipulation, scams, spam, malware, or attempts to evade an enforcement decision.
- If someone may be in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service; FactNot is not an emergency service.
Lawful and rights-respecting content
Only submit or share content that you may lawfully use. Public facts are not owned merely because they are referenced, but source text, images, databases, personal data, and confidential material may be protected.
- Respect copyright, privacy, confidentiality, court orders, sanctions, export controls, and source access restrictions.
- Do not bypass paywalls, passwords, robots controls, technical restrictions, or contractual access limits.
- Use the standalone Copyright page for copyright and DMCA notices; a safety report is not a substitute for a legally complete notice.
Moderation and appeals
FactNot may preserve, label, restrict, remove, restore, or refer content and may limit accounts when reasonably necessary for safety, law, rights, or service integrity.
- A reporter receives a reference and, after email verification, can view the status and public decision reason.
- A notified party may submit one appeal for each decision; further review is an internal staff action.
- Internal investigation notes are separated from the public decision reason and are not displayed on the public status page.
