Private is the default
New facts, working libraries, and saved source material should begin as private workspace content. Publishing should be an explicit action because facts can carry source context, verification history, and personal research trails.
- Private facts and private libraries are visible to the owner and authorized staff paths only.
- Article body text starts owner_only and stays hidden from guests, public previews, and Ask Nyx unless a sharing state allows it.
- AI tools must use the same actor permissions as the person asking the question, not a wider system view.
Article text has three states
A source citation is not the same thing as redistributing the full article body. The beta source reader treats saved article text as a separate asset with its own visibility and rights checks.
- owner_only means only the saving owner can read the captured body text.
- space means accepted collaborators in the same space can read it, but guests and public links cannot.
- public means the body text can be exposed only when the source is open/public-domain or the owner records a permission basis.
Different objects share differently
Facts, views, libraries, and source bodies do not have identical sharing semantics. A public fact can cite a source document while a private or space-visible source body still stays hidden behind the citation.
- Views can be private, collaborator-only, public by link, or discoverable.
- Libraries are private collections until an explicit collaborator or public-library flow exists.
- Media and source previews should reveal useful context without leaking private body text.
Friends beta means visible, not finished
The open beta should be clear enough for early users to give feedback, without pretending every premium, API, or marketplace path is complete.
- Guests can inspect public and discoverable surfaces, but not private facts, private libraries, or owner_only source bodies.
- Premium states can be prepared behind manual or invite-based access.
- Docs should explain what users can see, edit, share, automate, and cite before they publish.
